This 3.63-acre property is located on Baugess Mill Rd in Traffell, NC 28685 with latitude 36.3097 and longitude -81.0201. Built in 2024, this 452 square foot 2 bedroom home is currently for sale for $275,000. We were driving down I-26, heading to Asheville. We rubbernecked and stopped the investigation. No one was there, but the houses were locked and had “For Sale” signs hanging from their porches, so we took a self-guided tour.

Here is my updated video tour of the interior of a timber frame-style tiny house. I love the porch and the door! What do you think? Later we discovered the roof was closed, hence my comment on the video. For more information, you can contact the developer here.
After setting up our little house, Guillaume and I jumped back in the truck and continued our journey. A short time later, we checked into our own cabin in Asheville, a quiet town nestled in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains. It was a chilly morning as small businesses began to open their doors. Every store was different. From an industrial brewery with metal sculptures to a funky laundromat serving quality food and local beer. From a tea room with bells and floor cushions, to a cheap coffee bar converted from an old house. Grocery stores are also important.

Perch & Nest
Asheville is a southern town, but it’s also a mountain town. It’s a hipster’s haven, an eclectic oasis, and a foodie’s utopia. It is a city of musicians, sculptors, yogis, painters and hippies. And it is a town of small houses. So two young men took their shell to Asheville, tapped it, and thought:
1) Wilson’s Riverfront RV Park. It is located along the French Broad River and is close to downtown Asheville. Wilson offered a reward to Passport America holders where they were able to get two nights at 50% off.
2) Wedge Brewery. They let us park at their place for free for 5 days, so thanks to Jason Scholder, The Wedge and all the business owners on the property. Thanks to you, we were able to host another epic open house.
Diehl of Wishbone Tiny Homes agreed to show us one of her tiny homes. Not only does Teel love tiny houses and is full of interesting stories, but he’s also a new dad! We were glad he took the time to leave our house.
Communities Of Tiny Homes Around Greenville Soon Could Have New Rules
The tiny house that Teal brings to these events is a compact model that stands 16 feet tall, but it’s more spacious than most tiny houses. The width is actually slightly above the legal limit of the street, which means a permit is required to move the house. Deal assured us that getting permission is no big deal, and he feels the equality and transparency that comes with increased breadth is important.
Laura Lavoie and her partner Matt also visited our home. I have been following Laura’s blog “Life in 120 Square Feet” for a long time. She’s just as smart and funny in person as she is in writing, and this girl knows all about beer! So, of course, we joined. A few days later, we visited Laura and Matt’s place to check out their 120 square foot buggy home.
One morning it was as cold as 15 degrees and Mother Nature wrapped Wedge in a white blanket. But these aren’t just snowballs, they’re the Tiny House Giant Journey
Guillaume ran around to catch the scene, and I curled up on the bed, clinging to the warmth from our wood stove.
Best Tiny Home Communities Across The Country
Tiny House GJ scores another first in Asheville – a houseguest! Guillaume’s brother, Justin, flew in from France. A week later we were going to celebrate Thanksgiving in the Smoky Mountains with our family, but Justin wanted to see a little cabin tour, so he flew in early.
Since Guillaume was out of town for a tiny home shop, it was my job to explain to Justin how the inside of a tiny house works, including the dreaded “composting toilet” talk.

….Also, there is a room here with, um.. solids… so if you want to… um… do it… pull this lever to open the room…

Justin slept on the “spare bed,” which involved placing our bench and two ottomans in an L-shaped configuration. Justin is about 6’1″ and can stretch, but only a little. We didn’t have a blanket, so Justin used one of our sleeping bags. This may sound counterintuitive, but we don’t have much. Even an extra blanket seems too much. However, Justin told me he was free. But he could have been polite. More tests are needed.
It was Saturday night and Justin was trying to kill his jet lag, so we decided to crash the party at a place his friend who played in a band knew. As we drove down the dark roads of rural North Carolina, I thought:
Twenty minutes later my GPS announced our arrival and I could see a creepy, quiet house perched on top of a hill.
After failing to drive up the steep dirt driveway (texts would later assume it was because I wasn’t using 4-wheel drive), Justin and I pulled up. Glowing necklaces lit the way in the dark, and a pack of friendly dogs announced our arrival.

Finally we reached home. A dark house that looks abandoned from the street, now hosts a fun party. Once inside we met Ryan (a friend of a friend) and his friends. They gave us home brewed wine and asked us to help ourselves to the wonderful feast on the table.

Ten minutes later we were in the yard listening to Ryan’s band. I clung to my soft jacket and danced in warmth, blowing off the snow with every breath. The music was amazing and I had never heard it before. It is a wonderful combination of culture and innovation. This show marked our first concert in the South, but not our last.
A few days later we met Ryan at his place for a walk, but along the way we stopped in Marshall, North Carolina to see another small village in the Asheville area! It’s still early in construction, but the builder is essentially using all reclaimed materials and trying to do something that many of us in the small community have discussed, but none succeeded. What am I talking about??
