Tiny houses have become more popular in the past few years, either because of the cost of living or because they encourage less living. Tiny houses allow you to own your own property, even if that house measures between 100 and 400 square feet.

But while building a functional residence may seem like a daunting task, Amazon has stepped in to bring the hot millennial trend to the masses by making these tiny homes easy to buy and easy to build. There are more than two dozen options on Amazon for DIY home kits, including 113-foot cabins for $5,350 and dog houses for $20,000.
Surprisingly, some Amazon listings claim that these tiny houses can be built in just two days with two people.

This is one of the tiny houses available for sale on Amazon – a buildable “getaway cabin” kit.
The whole wooden house is advertised as a cabin and not a full residence, probably because the house is small with only bare materials and few features.
The cottage is “large enough to serve as a summer house, granny flat, home office or even just a retail building,” the description says.

The floor plan for the small house shows a little more about its specifications. The layout is simple: three rooms on the first floor covering 292 square feet and one large room upstairs.
The home also includes a covered deck outside, which is optional if you’re not feeling the outdoors.
To make the best use of the small property, and to facilitate the construction of the house, the materials are few. Without gas, it would be difficult to set up a kitchen. To compensate for the lack of light, every room in the cottage has at least one window for light.
To turn a cabin into a home, Allwood suggests adding utilities for electricity and internet, and insulation for cold temperatures.

The room is divided, on the other hand, by a ladder in the middle which leads to a small attic room above.
The ceiling area is where Allwood advertised the room would be. The smooth ceiling makes hitting your head quite possible – at its highest, the room is less than five feet high.
Allwood’s listing for the cottage shows that the house comes in three large packages when it is delivered to you. All the materials needed to build a small house are apparently in the package sent: boards and planks, roof boards and logs, glass panes, nails and screws, and door locks.
Allwood says that “minimum tools are essential.” For the interested buyer with less home building experience, the package comes with “easy to use” instructions that should be easy to follow.

However, it is likely that you will need outside expertise to build the cottage. There is a small building kit with floor tiles, but there are no materials to build a foundation that ensures that the house is safe and stable.
Adding a foundation of gravel or concrete can help a house have a stable foundation, especially if you’re trying to build a small house on grass (which can slide in the rain) or on uneven ground.

But Amazon also sells other small houses of various sizes and shapes. On the cheaper side, a one-bedroom, 113-square-foot cabin costs $5,350.

Allwood also suggests not using this model as a cottage, but rather as a “home office, pool house, guest house, yoga studio, retail kiosk, or simply retreat in your backyard.”
On the more expensive side, Amazon is selling this Timberline cabin. For $34,900, this home is 354 square feet and more customizable, making it easy to change the home’s floor plan.
Amazon sells other buildable home appliances for $46,900 and $64,650. However, these homes are much larger than about 400 square feet as defined by a “small home.” The least expensive houses to build. $75 to $275 per square foot average and includes barn style homes, modular homes, mobile homes and cottages.
