Fix Leaky Utility Sink Faucet – Introduction Stop the leak by replacing the faucet washer or valve stem seal. You can change a wrench and a screwdriver in ten minutes.
Such laundry faucets are easy and cheap to repair. If it drips from the spout, you need a new faucet washer. If water flows around the handle, the rubber O-ring around the valve stem is bad.

But since you have to remove the valve stem to repair and the repair is simple, we recommend replacing the hot and cold washers and O-rings while the faucet is.
When To Replace A Concrete Laundry Tub: Ask A Plumber
Don’t forget to turn off the water and purge the pressure before starting. With luck, the laundromat will be a separate closure. Otherwise, you must turn off the water to the entire house by closing the main valve.
For most people, a standard utility faucet (also known as a wash faucet or sink faucet) will suffice. These are traditional two-handle faucets with long spouts that reach the corners of your bathroom.
When choosing them, consider whether you need a deck or wall faucet. Also note the required spout and sink height based on space requirements and pool size.
If you’re going to use your sink for more than just laundry – bathing pets, washing large pots and pans, or cleaning up after a messy DIY project – you may want to choose other faucet features, such as dispensers, retractable faucet sprayers, contactless activation or other features which can make it even more convenient.
Why Your Faucet Base Is Leaking & How To Fix It
Remove the leaky faucet handle. Then turn the valve counterclockwise with a wrench. Pull out the valve stem.
Remove the screw holding the washer to the valve. Then take all the parts to the hardware store. You will find a drawer full of faucet washers and o-rings. Just find the washers that will fit snugly in the valve recess and match the O-ring. If the screw holding the washer is damaged during removal, buy new brass screws.
When you get home, install the new washer and put the bolts back on. Now just put the valve stem into the mixer in reverse order. No more dripping!

To fix a leaky faucet, first turn off the water from the faucet by turning the valve under the sink. If there is no valve, turn off the water supply to the entire house. Turn off the faucet to drain the water from the pipe and plug the drain to prevent anything from falling while you work. If there is a screw behind the faucet handle, remove it with a hex wrench, then remove the handle. Alternatively, if the handle has a top screw cap, remove it with a flathead screwdriver, then loosen the screw underneath and remove the handle. With the handle off, use a wrench to replace and remove the handle assembly nut. Pull the cartridge handle up and out of the sink. Wipe all the loose parts and the area around the handle with a cloth. If the O-ring looks old or damaged, replace it. Get a suitable replacement for the old cartridge, then install the new cartridge back into the sink. Now use the wrench to tighten the nut back into place and reattach the handle. Finally, turn the water back on and check that the faucet is no longer leaking. If you need to learn how to fix a compression or cassette mixer, read on!
