How To Build A Log Cabin House
“Linda and I built a home in Florida in 2002 and sold our home in the Catskill Mountains of New York. In 2012 we decided to take a vacation in the Catskill Mountains and realized that as much as we love Florida, we miss the mountains. When we started to see North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains (like the Catskills), we found a beautiful mountain area in western North Carolina. Not knowing much about log homes, I asked the Log Homes Council for information. Well, our inbox has started receiving inquiries from a number of local companies. Then we started to get excited and decided to build a log cabin for a vacation in the mountains. We found home builder Steve Wallin of Asheville Custom Homes. We reviewed a number of local log home companies, including Honest Abe Log Homes. Based on Steve’s recommendation and the package we received from Honest Abe’s vendor, Darlene Dawson of Bear’s Den Log Homes, we contacted Darlene. From the very beginning we felt a comfort level with Darlene and Steve over the phone. We meet Steve and Darlene and another builder to decide and buy lots of things on a trip to a mountain community called Grandview Peaks. After meeting everyone and seeing their work, my wife Linda and I felt comfortable with Darlene and Steve and signed the contract the next day.

Linda and I are very pleased and confident with the work done and have already recommended this team to anyone building a home. “By following this new ePrivacy Directive, you consent to our privacy policy and our use of cookies.

If you’re like me and didn’t know that Gransfors Brook was Ikea’s latest table, the talent and hard work shown in this video might seem like an insurmountable challenge.
At first I tried to build a log house like Eric, but I ran into a lot of problems, which made me look for another way.
During my first attempt at building a traditional log cabin, I encountered two challenges that got me thinking about what I should do to build a log cabin.
If you want your cabin to be insect-proof and last for more than a few years, you can’t leave the tree bark on. This is especially true if you’re using pine, which invites all kinds of beetles and borers under the skin as soon as it’s cut. However, I quickly learned that cleaning wood is brutal work, and I respect Eric and anyone who cleans enough wood for an entire cabin.
The Logless Log Home: How To Create A Log Home Without Logs
I have tried different methods of cleaning the wood. If you decide to go this route, the best methods I’ve found are to use the Bully Floor Scraper and chainsaw Log Wizard, which my cousin helped me get for Christmas. I can tell you that both methods were more effective than using a potato peeler.
I didn’t buy the $305 Gransfors Brook draw knife that Eric Granquist uses to clean his logs, and that was a mistake. It looks like a great, quality tool.
At the end of the year, I removed about 30 logs – according to my rough calculations, only a third of what I needed.
A log lying on top may not look very bent, but when these types of logs are placed on top
