Even if you’re DIYing a tiny house, it’s important to plan ahead, do the necessary research, and find the trailer that’s right for you. Blueprints For Small Mobile Homes And Travel Trailers
The first step is to find the right dealer. There are many companies and private sellers that offer cheap or used options, and although this is tempting, you should be very careful. Once you build your tiny house, it will be very difficult to change the trailer. That’s why it’s important to choose a reliable dealer that only sells engineered trailers. This ensures its safety and durability. If you want to reduce costs, you can do that in other stages of construction.
It is also advisable to choose a company that builds trailers for small homes. These purpose built tiny house trailers will be specially designed to complement the nature of your tiny house. Most of them are sold at a fixed height and weight level, but if you need something outside of these standards, be sure that the seller can build one to your needs.
There are two main types of small house trailers: flats and trailers. The flatbed has a standard hole and a metal bed that sits on top of the wheel. They are ideal for maximizing floor space as the bed is always flush with the wheels. Goosenecks have a curved, raised neck instead of the usual bow. They are suitable for building small houses that are not classified as vehicles. Keep in mind that if you decide to build a tiny house, you will need special cars and a license to drive on Australian roads. Flat beds are the most common, but if you don’t plan on moving your tiny house very often, a mattress can be more flexible in construction.
The size of trailer you choose depends entirely on your needs and preferences. The maximum width of light trailers on Australian roads is 2.5 metres, so the most important category is length. Usually from 5 to 12 meters, but remember that the longer you choose, the heavier and heavier it is.
Custom Tiny House Trailers
When it comes to weight, there are two things to consider. Another is the total weight of the trailer and what will sit on it, including your belongings. If you intend to tow your minivan on Australian roads, the gross weight cannot exceed 4.5 tonnes. The second factor is how much weight the actual trailer can carry. This can be calculated by taking the Aggregate Trailer Mass (found on the compliance plate) and the weight of the trailer. If you want to add extra weight in the future, it is better to leave room here. In order to choose the right size for your trailer, it’s important to know what you want in your tiny house. Other things to consider are how many people will be living there, the weight of the car that can be towed, how many different rooms you need, how much storage is needed, and finally what style and design you choose. For example, if you want a small house with a bedroom on the first floor, you may want to choose a long trailer. If you’re happy with the crib, there’s some flexibility. Checklist: Things to Remember When Looking for Tiny House Trailers 1. Is it an engineer?
Your trailer should be able to hold the full weight of your tiny house, with extra room for future changes. If you decide to move it, the final build must meet the size and weight requirements of Australian roads.
Additional features in a small house trailer can make your life easier in the long run. Some good options include handbrake, taillights, stabilizers, anchor points and your VIN number.

Is it galvanized or painted for extra protection? Hot dip often provides longer protection, but dyeing offers more flexibility in choosing colors.
Is it a fair price if not cheap? Depending on features and specifications, you can expect a standard trailer to cost between $11,000 and $22,000. Avoid trailers that are cheaper than that, as there can be problems that can lead to additional costs and headaches in the future.
