Tiny House Living For Families – In October 2017, we had ten hectares of land and had built our dream house from scratch. It was on a farm in Deer Park, Washington, which is a small town less than an hour north of Spokane. But after living there for two years, we realized it wasn’t our dream. One day my husband Brentt looked at me and said, “Do you want to sell and leave?” I just said, “Thank you Lord, yes!”
I wanted to travel a bit and travel across America for five years and I worked on convincing Brentt during that time. I don’t like being quiet and when you have a mortgage you can only travel once or twice a year and usually only for a week. I liked the idea of traveling somewhere, keeping our house and staying there as long as we wanted. We can choose the place and the weather.

We sold our house and everything in it except for some things in storage and left in March 2018. At the time I was 28 and Brentt was 32 and our five children were 11, 7, 5, 4 and 18 months. It was one of those situations where you feel like you can finally breathe because a weight that has been on your shoulders for so long has been lifted. It was amazing.
Modular Tiny Home On Wheels Can Fit A Family Of 6
Our first motorhome was small. My husband wasn’t sure he wanted to live in an RV for more than a year, so we bought a 33 foot travel trailer that didn’t even have a bedroom. Every night we changed the living room into the children’s room, and every morning we put everything away. Although we completely renovated it, including the kitchen and bathroom, and it ended up looking great, it was not suitable for long-term comfortable living for a family of seven and a dog.
We finally partnered with an RV manufacturer and they gifted us our current 5th wheel RV in June 2020. This is our home, it’s just smaller than most other people’s stone and brick homes, and over the last year we have worked hard. along with renovations and interior design changes to make it ours.
We have a front bedroom that sits on top of our truck, it has a master bedroom bathroom and we have a large living room because it was important to have a large family room. Beyond that is our kitchen, which has a full-sized refrigerator, washer and dryer, and a large oven. The only appliance we don’t have is a dishwasher. At the back of the motorhome is a room for our children with a small bathroom for them. We added a floor and storage to them and it has two beds that are down on the electrical plug system. Our eldest daughter has her own private loft space. There is also a large tent that goes behind the motorhome over the porch so they have plenty of space. Kids like to play and read in the background, but to be honest they run outside a lot, ride bikes and motorbikes, play sports with other kids or we go exploring as a family.
We are thankful that our children change a lot. They have never been children who need a very special regimen; they just go with the flow. They were excited to get out of the snow in Washington and go sightseeing because we had talked about all the historical sites we could see in person. Living in an RV has never been a problem and still isn’t. We are very open with our children and we talk to them all the time and ask if they want to come back into the house or if they want to stop sharing the space. The children are homeschooled and like to do their homework in the morning and then go exploring for the day. They gain a lot of life experience; they meet wonderful people from different backgrounds, races and religions and hear their stories face to face. There was actually a time in 2020 when we moved from our old RV to this one and had to spend time at several rental properties. We asked the kids if they wanted to live in a house again and they told us to go back to the RV!
This Self Sufficient Tiny House Is Home To Family Of Three
We are currently in Florida for six months but have traveled to 27 states so far. In the late spring, summer, and early fall, we travel and usually stay in locations for one to two weeks to explore the area and visit museums and historical sites. We’ve covered a lot of the west coast because we’re from Washington, a lot of southern states like Texas, New Mexico and Arizona, and we’ve also visited a lot of the Midwest. Our favorite family is Utah. We love Arches National Park near Moab, Zion National Park, Heber and Provo. They are all beautiful and beautiful all year round. We also love East Tennessee; places like Chattanooga and Pigeon Forge. And we’re big fans of Southern California. Who doesn’t love that place? San Diego is amazing.
I have been working with an essential oil company for seven years and it provides the majority of our revenue, but we also have an online subscription course for social media and we partner with online brands. In the winter we usually work at the motorhome site. For example, at the RV park and training camp we are currently in Florida, we stay on the farm at a reduced rate and get paid to work. So we have a whole bunch of different revenue streams and we do that so we can stay on the road.
The RV we live in would cost about $160,000 to buy, and our renovations so far have cost between $4,000-$5,000, although we plan to do more, like replacing the floor and tiling the bathroom.

Happy Holidays From Our (tiny) Home To Yours! — The Tiny Canal Cottage
The beauty of this lifestyle is that there are many options, it just depends on how you want to do it. There are people living in RVs where the rent is $400-$500 a month and there are people living off the land.
Some people are fine with more of a campground feel, but we like RV hotels with more amenities, so I don’t know if we saved any money. The months we stay in different hotels while traveling can cost anywhere from $1,000-$2,500, which is basically like paying off a mortgage.
When we started about four years ago, there were families, but they were more spread out. In the last three years we have seen a large wave of families doing the same as us, so we travel with other families. It’s like a rolling suburb. There will be families that we travel with for three or four months at a time, then we might not see them for a month, but we reconnect and travel the country together again. Our children have those friends and get to travel and experience places with them. Many families we know are also in Florida now. So our kids see their friends all the time!
When we drive through small towns, my husband always reminds the kids that we’ll never have to see that place or region of America if we don’t do this. It has given us so much freedom. We love that our backyard and front yard are always changing, but our interior stays the same.

On the other hand, with more freedom comes more opportunities, and it can be a little overwhelming. We can go anywhere in the country, live in any city and do anything! But honestly, there have been no low notes.
Next, we plan to travel to the east coast of America. We want to see places like Virginia and Washington D.C. and travel to Maine, then spend several months there to enjoy Maine in the summer. Later we will travel back down the east coast and return to spend the winter at the same RV park in Florida where we currently live.
In the long term, we are looking to start investing in holiday homes in the areas
